On the 7th of January, we travelled via a 3 hour bus to Liberia. We spent the rest of the day fairly relaxed organising things for the rest of the trip.
The next day, we began our trek. We caught a 20 minute bus to the closest bus stop to the national park, where we started the 7km walk towards the main campsite at the Santa Rosa Station. It was just along a road and we did it in 2 hours, so we arrived at 9:30am and set up our campsite. We played cards for a long while, had lunch, played more cards and then went to an interesting museum nearby.
On the 9th, we trekked for 12km towards Playa Naranjo. For the first 5km, we all found it fairly difficult because we were lugging around heavy back packs as well as around 180L of water to last the 19 of us for 3 days. Luckily, when we stopped for lunch, a truck drove past us and we asked if they could take some of our heavy items. They kindly accepted, which made it much easier to finish the walk. We did the 12km in about 4 hours and arrived at the campsite, which was next to a beautiful beach. We watched the sunset and then had dinner and an early night’s sleep.
The following morning was spent exploring the short trails around the campsite. We walked for about 7km and saw a few animals such as iguanas, deer, birds and a flamingo. Some then played cards for the middle of the day while others relaxed in hammocks or took a nap. We enjoyed an early dinner and then took a walk along the beach for sunset. It was honestly one of the most photogenic beaches and sunsets we had ever seen, and many said it was the highlight of our trip so far. We went in for a quick dip and then walked a while down the beach towards Witch’s Rock and back to our campsite.
On the 11th of January, we woke up at 5am to leave early for the 12km hike back. We wanted to trek early to avoid the heat in the middle of the day. We walked fairly quickly, despite having a 45 minute uphill walk, and continued at a steady pace all the way back to the first campsite. It only took us 3.5 hours, and we arrived at 10:30am. We decided that we were all feeling pretty good and we would be able to finish the trek that same day by walking the 7km back to the bus stop. After a filling lunch, we headed off at 1pm, still walking strongly. We were all motivated to finish and were able to do the 7km in about 1 hour and 45 mins. In total, we did about 22km in under 5.5 hours. We caught the bus back to Liberia where we had a refreshing shower, had dinner, and then a well deserved sleep.

Thanks so much for another amazing update – very proud of you all such a wonderful life experience. Keep on making the most of every day
